There is in every sailor’s heart
\nA port that he calls home;
\nA port that remains etched in memory,
\nNo matter how far or wide he should roam.<\/p>\n
He knows the leading lights so well,
\nHe knows the fog horn’s moan;
\nHe knows the shifting sands of the bar;
\nHe knows that port called home.<\/p>\n
It’s where as a boy he would walk the docks,
\nAlone on a Saturday,
\nAdmiring the boats and yachts and ships
\nThat he aspired to sail.<\/p>\n
It’s where by the water’s edge he would sit
\nAnd for hours stare out to sea,
\nDreaming of the time that would one day come
\nWhen on the ocean he’d be set free.<\/p>\n
It’s where that fateful day did come
\nWhen the first time the bar he crossed,
\nAnd leaving land’s turmoil behind in the wake,
\nHe knew to the sea his life would be lost.<\/p>\n
Every sailor has a port called home;
\nFor which a part of his heart still yearns.
\nThat he remembers and loves and always knows
\nOne day he will return.<\/p>\n
Some sail back on the ebbing tide
\nAboard the ship of their dreams;
\nBearing the fruits of their voyages so long,
\nAnd a bond with the sea so real.<\/p>\n
Others sail back on ships of the night,
\nWhen their ships have gone down in tragedy,
\nFor though departed now from the sailor’s life,
\n‘Twas a life filled with love for the sea.<\/p>\n
Even the ocean-faring sailor’s departed soul
\nCannot rest in peace in the sea, or above,
\nSo every sailor must return, living or not,
\nTo that port he calls home–he loves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
