There is an irony in the fact
\nthat a soldier must kill
\nto protect what he is killing at home,
\nBy chance or ill-will.
\nFor the army destroys cultures
\nat home and abroad;
\nAn army is the last thing that
\nthis earth needs any more.<\/p>\n
For an army kills an enemy
\nto protect what they believe is right
\nBut in doing so the army’s needs
\noutweigh the human rights
\nTo an education, a life
\na land of liberty;
\nTo the things he says he defends
\nin the name of being free.<\/p>\n
But the budgets and the expenses
\nand the monies taken there
\nto support a military’s actions
\nin destroying the cultures there,
\nis exactly what destroys
\nthe cultures they have at home
\nand in destroying any culture,
\nan untold loss is known.<\/p>\n
Because it is the varied peoples
\nof this planet I embrace;
\nIt is the varied cultures that
\ngive colour to this place.
\nIt is the individuality
\nof each person that I see
\nToo often lost in tormented anger,
\nwar, or misery.<\/p>\n
But the cultures destroyed at home
\ncultures destroyed abroad
\nA military exists to destroy
\nnot to protect or to free,
\nAnd I do not support
\nThe things that are done
\nin the name of this country.
\nI do not support the ubiquity
\nof commercial avarice and greed.<\/p>\n
There is no excuse
\nthere is no way to tell
\nwhat we are destroying
\nis our very selves.
\nAnd I for one
\ncannot condone or support the agony
\nthat is being extolled on others
