Joyful shouts shatter
\nand drown an ever-deepening message.<\/p>\n
Pages stir sleepily
\nas words drift onto paper,
\nimages onto film,
\nvoices onto airwaves.<\/p>\n
We write: <\/p>\n
purveyors of all that is,
\nsentinels of all
\nthat trust would draw away;
\nunembarrassed
\nto bear witness
\nto the sickness
\nof our times.<\/p>\n
Sometimes I cannot
\nhide those parts of my life
\nthat are better forgotten.
\nThey enter and taint the neutrality. <\/p>\n
Those tortures prove worthiness;
\ngive something in common
\nto all and free the
\nhidden solidarity
\nthat lurks beneath a divided society,
\nbeneath the divided race of
\nbeings we are. <\/p>\n
Is it not the
\ngreatest of the graces
\nthat seeks to fulfill
\nits own promises,
\nits despair,
\nits feckless abandon
\ninto the hubbub of fate?<\/p>\n
I turn away to
\nrelease in the evening air;
\ntears are invisible, but there. <\/p>\n
The capacity to report
\nnow marooned upon
\na million billion thoughts
\nthat have flashed through this mind–
\ntoo fast, too many–
\nno time for the thoughts
\nto be formed into the words
\nthat would express them. <\/p>\n
Sleep evades this room.
\nQuiescence evades this mind.
\nThe sleeping must be done elsewhere,
\nanother place, at some other time. <\/p>\n
Such is the racing mind.
\nDawn brings more thoughts;
\nfocus drawn towards the realization
\nthat life and friendship
\nand streaming sunlight and water
\nshare a commonality:
\nhow immensely cherishable they are. <\/p>\n
