I heard you hearing me
\nThough your eyes were closed.
\ninto some mystery.<\/p>\n
I heard you hearing me
\nas my heart sung out”
\n“it’s OK to be free!” <\/p>\n
For the suffering
\nhas taken its toll
\nand it’s shared by those
\nwho love you and know<\/p>\n
that this shell
\nthat’s lying here
\nis not what’s hearing me
\nas I declare<\/p>\n
that life is a precious
\nbut temporary thing
\nand an end or a change
\nor whatever death brings<\/p>\n
is inevitable for us all
\nand it’s not easy to face.
\nAnd with my heart
\nI hear you,
\nhearing me
\nas I say<\/p>\n
It’s OK to be free
\nto go on from this place…
\nIt’s OK for you to leave now
\nthat this body, now emaciated
\nhas served you so well
\nand brought your friends joy
\nby housing the spirit
\nof a happy little boy<\/p>\n
who grew to the man
\nthat I called my friend.
\nYou, hearing me,
\nas you face this end
\nthis change,
\nthis place,<\/p>\n
This time to depart
\nfrom this human race.<\/p>\n
Now your body has served you well
\nIt’s done it’s part,
\nand with all the blessings
\nthat we can bestow,
\nwe, your friends,
\nthe family, the ones that you know
\nwill hold you dear forever and more
\nBecause that is what friendship is for. <\/p>\n
And the loss
\nit hurts,
\nBut it’s a loss only on the surface
\nfor deep down within
\nI can hear you
\nhearing me
